Blog stalking awareness

So, I realize I have been blogging a ton lately. My goal is a daily blog, so hopefully it will continue. With all this blogging I understand that it is hard to comment, and I am sure half of the post aren't even seen, but I feel as though I am missing my audience. I have had a few faithful commenters and I LOVE your comments THANK YOU, thank you! so please keep them coming.

Don't get me wrong I am not asking for comments on every post, and I am not trying to be all egotistical but, I have a request, just for this post at least, Please COMMENT. Especially if I have never met you, I'd love to know you!

Think of it as blog stalking awareness, as in, my awareness of who is stalking!?! I would just really love to know who is reading this blog... I would be so happy to find out a friend of a friend is reading it and I would love to hear what you think, who you are, or just a shout out that you are reading etc.

Do you dare comment?

I am just wondering. And I would love some encouragement to continue posting so often.

Also, if you do read my blog and you like a certain type of post, for example recipes or sewing, please tell me, so that I can do more of the same. I would love to hear from you, so here's to you, and my fingers are crossed that you will comment!

THANKS!

"Wet" your appetite

I realize that I have had a lot of "befores" of all our projects lately and not a lot of "afters", but that is how it goes in our house. We start one project, only for me to get bored and start another one. Well, actually we get to a point where Justin is doing the work, and I have to wait... Either way, it keeps us hopping.
This one however was quick and relatively easy project. It should be completed this coming weekend (complete with cost breakdown, for those interested). But for now here is our upstairs bath in a series of pictures pasted together to get the idea of the space.

(I am standing in the tub for most of these shots.)

The second shot is from the hall trying to look in.

Here is the plan. Forgive the quality of the rendering. I used the stitched together pictures as a base, I no longer have Autocad, and am not yet smart enough in sketchup. But just you wait, Justin is teaching me how to really use it, and I don't think I will need cad any more.

Our starting budget to fix it all was $300.00, the estimate included: paint, framed mirror, cabinet, tiling the floor, hooks, pulls, and new moldings.

So far, we've done it for almost half the price... And may be able to do a few more things.

The stats: 2nd month

(there will be more pictures of Etta in her blessing dress coming this week)

She hasn't changed much in terms of percentages:
90% for weight 12 lbs 8 oz
97% for height 24 1/4"
75% head circumference (I guess she didn't get my BIG head!)

We got shots too(this on the same morning the cat almost died, thank you very much). This was a really hard thing for both of us! (notice I said we got shots, technically it was only Etta, but it was a nightmare for Mommy) The nurse was like I'm real fast, she was. So fast the alcohol hadn't dried the band aids didn't stick and she left the room before Etta had finished her huge shocked in tack of breath.

It was the saddest most hurt, painful cry and face you have ever seen. Her eyes filled with tears, I grabbed her up in my arms, and got blood all over my shirt, trying to help calm her down. I was decided to nurse her, and it was like here world hers my boob, cuz we were on ground level with the blind fully pulled up, facing an apartment complex- Oh well my poor screaming baby won the most important vote for me.

We've had some weird days since then. I have been sick a bit and I am pretty sure so has she.

I'm so glad when Daddy comes home...

Glad as I can be;
Clap my hand and shout for joy, Then climb upon his knee.
Put my hands upon his cheek, hug him tight like this.
Pat his cheeks then give him what? A great big kiss!

I love that song!

Etta also loves it when Daddy come home from work. But then, she realized I was taking pictures. She looked around for me, and immediately stopped smiling. Check out the progression:

Going....

Going...
Gone!

What? Oh, hi, Mom.

"The Others" strike again!

That is right, our "Lost Ladies" are slowly being taken by "the others".
Mostly because they keep morphing into ROOSTERS! Okay, so maybe they were roosters from the beginning, but their manliness was subdued by the other Rooster.... or something like that.
This lovely lady, Juliette, is now Sawyer, James if you will.
James has moved on to greener pastures.
We are suspicious of our last two. Wouldn't it be funny in a really annoying way,
if our 5 hens, turned out to be 5 roosters? HA HA.
So far, the count is 3 for 5, the roosters are winning.
Here are Sawyer's last moments on the island, he is strutting around like usual.

From Daddy with Love

This is Justin's little surprise for Etta.

Isn't the first cry just delicious! I love it!

Not a good morning.

Warning: you may want to check the blinds around your house, for your families safety- read the following story to understand.

Yesterday, I woke up before Etta did. It was nice a quiet rainy day morning. I sat and ate my whole wheat Chex cereal in perfect peace and quiet. When I was done, I heard her Etta waking. I walked in and we smiled at cooed at each other for a minute of two. After picking her up, we headed to the front room so I could feed her, and that is when I heard Kitty crying, in a strange talking sort of way, upstairs.

Now, I should explain that this is a normal happening. Kitty will cry out, really vocally and loudly, several times until we answer her. But this time, I felt a really urgent need to go check on her. It just didn't seem right. I am SO thankful for that warning in my heart from the Spirit.

I rushed up the stairs but didn't see her immediately. I head toward her favorite hang out, which is behind the drapery in the corner. As I approached I could see something was wrong with her, she was not sitting normally. When I get close enough to see her from around the sofa, the most horrific sight met my eyes. There is my cat strangling in the blind cords! She was hanging there by the neck in the cords.

I quickly deposited Etta on the couch and leapt over the sofa to Kitty. I scooped her up in my arms and began unwinding the cords from around her tiny body and throat. She was obviously really upset and struggling against me. I got half of the cords off quickly ands easily but the others were knotted so tightly that I couldn't get them off her. Every time I tried to loosen them she would cry but I couldn't get them off. I had to pull up the blind to give her more slack, set her on the floor and run to get a pair of scissors. It was so tight I could almost not get the scissors underneath it, and finally I was able to cut the blind cord off to get her free.

I am so thankful she is alive. Luckily not only was it around her neck but her body too, which I believe kept her from getting into more trouble.

Now, before you think I am a neglectful mother, I must say that I am pretty careful with my blind strings. When I moved into the house they were all huge knotted messes about 40 feet long. I have in time shortened every single blind to only the necessary length to let the blind down. Meaning, when the blind is down there is only about 4 inches of length left of the cords. Then, when the blind is pulled up I wrap the strings sailor style around 2 nails at the side of the window, under the drapery up about my head height. This keeps the cords from tangling, and now I know, much worse.

I know that there are warnings for children strangling in the cords, and that is why I shortened them and usually have them tied up. What if this had happened while we were gone? We just got back from vacation.

So a cautionary tip- Keep all cords up away from the kids, and tell everyone who may operate the blind to also wrap them up.

Now, if you have any love for your children and pets, please go check all your blind's cords. I am certain that a child would have died if this had happened to them. I know they sell some little sailor things for blinds but if you don't want to go out and buy those, do what I've shown below, all you need are two nails, a hammer and a rule that the cord ALWAYS be wrapped up when you raise the blind!

I most certainly never will forget again!

Worth Every Penny

... all 25 of them.

When I first moved to Fort Worth I was on the lookout for good second hand stores. I love thrifting I've been doing it since high school. You should see my collection of 60's and 70's clothes (me: sigh of contentment)! Anyway after asking my friend Amanda I was told about this awesome store that has 25 cent days. That is right, all thing 25 cents. But she couldn't remember the store name.
Well, I got busy and pregnant and the store slipped my mind, that is until my other friend Sharla came to church wearing a cute shirt that she had altered. She got the idea from this blog. It was too cute, and I told her the next time she goes I was going with her.

We planned on that next Wednesday. Unfortunately it got a little late and Sharla couldn't go so I ventured out on my own. I brought home loads of great things including two perfect pairs of slacks for my husband to wear to work (.50 total for BOTH). But, I also got a lot of dresses for my self, because I don't own any I can feed my baby in. And later I will show the other things I bought to alter.
Today I altered one of the dresses just to make it a little cuter. It was going for the football player look with big old shoulder pads. Seriously, why were shoulder pads ever popular?
Before:

There were slits in the back that went a little to high. The front had a collar and longer sleeves.

After:

For the front, I removed the collar, shortened the sleeves and added a ribbon around the bodice and bottom. Then in back, I sewed up the slits. I am going to wear it to church tomorrow.
